Milka Djordjevich and Friends
We invite dance enthusiasts to participate in our mobile collective laboratory by using the construct of a class as a way to present, offer and explore our research and ideas to and with you. We will explore collective teaching driven by hot topics which include anything that brings points of cosmic perception and awareness. The class may be performed as an obstacle course or a creative (and sometimes playful) reinterpretation or subversion of the space. The class involves 'seeing' one's environment in a new way, and imagining the potentialities for movement around it.
Milka (United States), Alex (Macedonia/Bulgaria), and Thomas (Croatia) met in Vienna in 2010. This June they are reuniting for a the three-city collective endeavor. They are working at New York Live Arts in NYC, THEOFFCENTER with support from [ABC] Consortium in San Francisco, and Pieter PASD in Los Angeles. While in residence in each of these locations, they will research and discover where each of their individual contemporary dance practices intersect and interact with each community and environment with the hope of cross-pollinating ideas and practices. They are interested in exploring methods of de-organization, non-forced adaptation and non-forced collectivity. Their various practices have involved pain, props, spectacle and action. They are innovators of hair, pool and keyboard parkour. This project was made possible by the East/Central Europe Cultural partnerships program, with support from the Trust for Mutual Understanding.
